AMS/ACS News update by Dave Marshall with pictures by Phil Lay
The snow is going, there’s warmth in the sun and the Aboyne and Mid Deeside Community Shed is looking forward to better days where we can complete fitting out and have some semblance of occupancy. That’s the plan, reality may be different, better we hope.
Since the last news posting we have completed a new web site for the Community Shed, www.aboynecs.org which we invite you to visit. This new site represents the complete Shed and is now open to application enquiries for groups interested in using the Shed. Examples of groups having confirmed an interest are shown on the User Group page. Our thanks to Barry Marshall of https://trybees.com for the development of the site following the contribution he made in developing the Men’s Shed site www.aboynemensshed.org.uk
Another important area of progress is the installation of the domestic kitchen units and equipment supplied by Peter Ellington Kitchens of www.ellingtonmennie.co.uk This provides two oven/hob units, extensive worktop space, sinks, standard appliances and central work island all viewable via a large hatch for demonstration cooking sessions. What we are now looking for are offers for the fit out equipment like plates, pots/pans, cutlery and small appliances. Contact if you can help.
On the external areas we have secured funds to upgrade the access road from the Cemetery car park, a new gate and shiny red post box and install handrails on the ramp to the upper door. Landscaping by planting native trees and shrubs, bee friendly with wild planting will be carried out in March. If you are a person who has ideas and wishes to help, then please contact us.
News would not be complete without mentioning the workshop which the Men’s Shed members are scheming to progress. When circumstances allow, we will start to move donated workshop equipment from storage to the workshop. Current thinking is mid to late March and mean time woodwork benches are going to be constructed to give us a flying start. Membership can be applied for via the web site application form or contact us. We now have 38 members which we are using Zoom to stay in touch with. If you have equipment, tools and all those small screws, fittings, nuts and bolts please contact us.
Best wishes to all our readers, pass on the word and we look forward to those days where we can meet and do stuff in the Shed.
